HISTORY OF THE REGION



Based on data of National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia, the process of appointment of Tanjung Puting National Park which originally Sampit Wildlife Reserve has been started since 1931. (Surat De Administrateur, De Directeur van Economische Zaken No .: 3843 / AZ, dated 7 May 1934, to Resident East and South Borneo in Banjarmasin).

Through a long process in establishing Sampit Wildlife Sanctuary as a habitat of Kalimantan's most important wildlife, namely: Orangutan, Banteng, Bekantan and Rhino, among others by letters :

The Sampit Wildlife Sanctuary was designated by Besluit Gouverneur-General van Nederlandsch-Indie No .: 39 dated 18 August 1937 with an area of ​​205,000 Ha, and published in the State Gazette (Staatsblaad) of 1937 No .: 495 dated 27 August 1937.


Based on "List of Nature Sanctuaries (Wildlife Sanctuaries and Wildlife Sanctuaries) in Indonesia" in annex "1941 Nature Protection Ordinance" (Natuurbeschermingsordonnantie 1941) Staatsblad 1941 167, is listed as Kotawaringin Nature Sanctuary of 100,000 ha and Sampit Nature Reserve of 205,000 Ha. The reason for the appointment as the Nature Reserve, is due to the function of Botanist and Faunistis.


Based on data and information, Sampit Wildlife Sanctuary was laid out in 1969/1970 - 1973/1974 by the Boundary Team with the name of Tanjung Puting Wildlife Reserve, and the BATB (Statutes of Border Regulation) was signed on 31 January 1977. Determination of the Area of ​​Asylum Wildlife of Tanjung Puting based on BATB, determined 270,040 Ha based on Minister of Agriculture Decree No .: 43 / Kpts / DJ / I / 1978 dated April 8, 1978, on Forest Area Determination.


In 1977, the Tanjung Puting Wildlife Reserve was included in the list of one of the Biosphere Reserves in Indonesia set by UNESCO.


The Tanjung Puting Wildlife Reserve was expanded to 300,040 Ha, based on the Decree of the Minister of Agriculture No .: 698 / Kpts / Um / 11/1978 dated 13 November 1978, on the Appointment of Forest Areas between S. Serimbang and S. Sigintung covering ± 30,000 Ha located in the Region Tk. II Kotawaringin Timur, Tk. I Central Kalimantan as Nature Reserve cq. Wildlife Sanctuary and combine them into one with Tanjung Putting Wildlife Reserve.


Statement of the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia No .: 736 / Mentan / X / 1982 dated October 14, 1982, on the Candidates of National Parks, declared the Tanjung Puting Wildlife Reserve as a National Park Candidate with an area of ​​355,000 Ha. Furthermore, while waiting for the Minister of Forestry Decree on Appointment of Work Area of ​​National Park, Director General of PHPA through Decree No. 46 / Kpts / VI-Sek / 84 dated December 11, 1984, stipulates the working area of ​​Tanjung Puting National Park is Tanjung Putting Wildlife Reserve. (300,040 Ha).


With no extended HPH concession of PT. Hesubazah in Production Forest of Central Kalimantan Province, which occupies an area of ​​± 90,000 Ha and lies adjacent to Tanjung Puting National Park in the West, Minister of Forestry through letters No .: 1201 / Menhut-IV / 1995 dated August 15, 1995, No. : 1202 / Menhut-IV / 1995 dated August 15, 1995, establishing the area as a buffer zone of Tanjung Puting National Park.


Subsequently, Tanjung Putting National Park, determined by Decree of the Minister of Forestry No .: 687 / Kpts-II / 1996 dated October 25, 1996, on the Change of Function and Appointment of Kawasan Hutan which is located in Regency Level II of Kotawaringin Barat and Regency of Kotawaringin Timur, Province I Central Kalimantan Region of ± 415,040 (Four Hundred and Twelve Thirty Forty Hundred) Hectares, comprising the Tanjung Puting Wildlife Reserve area of ​​± 300,040 (Three Hundred Thousand Forty) Hectares, Production Forests of ± 90,000 (Ninety Thousand Hectares) Hectares And the surrounding area of ​​± 25,000 (Twenty Five Thousand) Hectares into the National Park with the name of Tanjung Putting National Park.


In 2009, based on the Decree of the Minister of Forestry No .: SK.777 / MENHUT-II / 2009 dated December 7, 2009, TNTP is designated as Conservation Forest Management Unit (KPHK) of Tanjung Puting National Park Kotawaringin West Regency and Kotawaringin East Regency Central Kalimantan Province Covering an area of ​​± 415,000 Ha. This decree was declared on Monday December 14, 2009 in Bali.
